Lekhmeldung Drinking Water Project

Start Date: 2018, January

Location: Bhumisthan 3, Thakre Village Council, Dhading District

Partner: KinderhilfeeV.,Germany and Jagat Chet Pratisthan, Kathmandu

The Lekhmeldung Water Supply Project for Mahakalidevisthan Basic School is a supplementary project of School Reconstruction project. The main goal of the project is to supply safe and pure drinking water to the school students. It also aims to maintain healthy living environment at home and school through improving the personal hygiene and water supply to the community. There are marginalized and deprived population, especially Tamang ethnic communities resides where their main occupation is agriculture. Only one primary school i.e. Shree MahaKaliDevisthan Basic School is located in the centre of community. Being very remote part of the rural municipality, school has less access to government resources and very few development organizations reached there. Students were using unsafe drinking water and lacked proper sanitation facilities. After earthquake in April 2015, the water sources were dried and the availability of water was also reduced. As a result, the senior girls were likely to drop out their classes due to water and personal sanitation issues. Therefore, in request of local residence, the proposed Lekhamaldung water supply is implementing.
